Uroflowmetry
What is uroflowmetry and what is it used for?
Uroflowmetry, also known as Uroflow, is a diagnostic test that measures the urine flow through the urethra during urination and is used to assess the speed and volume of urine released from the body.
Measuring of urine flow is used to detect urethral obstruction or hypotonic detrusor. The flow of urine can be continuous or intermittent, and the flow rate is defined as the amount of urine that passes through the urethra per unit of time.
Who is uroflowmetry intended for?
Uroflow should be the first test in the urodynamic workup. It should be used as a screening test in all women who have symptoms of dysfunction of the lower part of the urinary tract in order to distinguish which patients need further treatment and which do not.
