Common Gynecologic Procedures
Common procedures in gynecology include different types of surgical procedures applying different techniques to surgically treat a woman's sexual organs (uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina, vulva).
Indications for gynecological surgery are various: endometriosis, uterine fibroids, various types of cysts on the ovaries, adhesions in the pelvis, changes in the fallopian tubes, pathological changes in the mucous membrane and cervix of the uterus (e.g.: polyps, CIN changes), failed early pregnancies, pathological changes in the vagina and vulva, as well as labia minora corrections and hymen reconstruction.
Types of gynecologic procedures
Gynecologic procedures and techniques are divided into endoscopic (laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures) and classical surgical technique. In the St. Catherine Specialty Hospital we perform the following:
SMALL GYNECOLOGICAL PROCEDURES
- LLETZ conization
- Fractional curettage, DEC, Karman aspiration for early miscarriage
- Excision of Condyloma lesions
- Removal of growths from the vulva (fibromas, atheromas, lipomas, suspicious changes)
- Cervical polyp ablation
- Bartholin's Gland incision
COMMON GYNECOLOGIC PROCEDURES
- Laparoscopy
- Hysteroscopy (Bettocchi i resectoscope)
- Laparotomy
- Cold knife cone biopsy
- Bartholin's Gland excision
- Labiaplasty
- Hymenoplasty
Unlike classic (invasive) procedures, the advantages of minimally invasive gynecological procedures are faster and more painless recovery, less bleeding during the procedure, and a significantly lower rate of complications and infections.
