Adolescent Gynecology

Adolescent gynecology covers a period of approximately from 10-20 age of the woman's life. This is the time when the first gynecological examination is usually performed, and  it is extremely important that it is performed as gently and painlessly as possible so that women do not have trauma for future gynecological examinations and that this does not discourage them from continuing to regularly monitor their gynecological health. During this period, the most common worries are disorders of the menstrual cycle which are often accompanied by hormonal disorders, acne, hirsutism, oily skin and hair that can occur as a result of polycystic ovaries, followed by vaginal infections and sexually transmitted diseases after sexual intercourse, and fortunately rare, but they do happen, congenital anomalies of the female genital tract. Unplanned and unintended pregnancy, contraception and safe sex have to be discussed already during this period of life. If the girl did not have sexual intercourse, the ultrasound examination is not performed transvaginally but via the abdomen (transabdominal) with a pre-filled bladder. Also, in this case, the Pap smear is not done because it is not required.
