Vertebroplasty
What is vertebroplasty and what is it used for?
Vertebroplasty is an interventional radiological method used in the treatment of vertebral compression fractures caused by osteoporosis. This method prevents further loss of vertebral height, as well as significantly reduces the intense pain caused by a fractured vertebral body.
How is vertebroplasty performed?
In vertebroplasty, a bone needle is used to insert medical cement into the vertebral body where a compression fracture due to osteoporosis has occurred.
The approximate duration of the procedure is about 45 to 60 minutes.
