Breast Cancer Cryoablation
What is breast cancer cryoablation?
Cryoablation of breast cancer is a minimally invasive therapy for small breast cancers, up to 3 cm in size, and is performed on patients who are not ideal candidates for surgical resection of breast cancer.
How is cryoablation of breast cancer performed and what is it used for?
Cryoablation of breast cancer is a painless method, which is why it is performed on an outpatient basis under ultrasound control and under local anesthesia, allowing patients to return to daily activities the same day after the procedure. The approximate duration of the procedure is about 60 to 90 minutes.
Percutaneous therapy using a probe creates an ice zone with temperatures up to -140 °C, which destroys tumor tissue while sparing the remaining breast tissue.
