Epidurolysis
Epidurolysis is a minimally invasive method for treating painful spinal syndromes caused by degenerative changes of the intervertebral discs (bulging, protrusion, extrusion). The procedure is performed in an operating room under X-ray guidance and local anesthesia. A flexible Racz catheter is introduced through the epidural space to the site of intervertebral disc degeneration. At the site of degeneration, a local anesthetic is applied for pain relief, a short-acting corticosteroid is administered for its anti-inflammatory effect, and the enzyme hyaluronidase is used to break down adhesions formed as a result of previous irritation of the nerve root.
