Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) of Facet Joints
What is radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of facet joints and what is used for?
Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive method of thermal ablation of nerve endings that innervate degeneratively altered small (facet) joints of the spine, thereby interrupting the transmission of pain via sensory nerves without the need for surgery.
Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of facet joints is used in the treatment of chronic pain in the spine caused by degenerative changes in the facet joints. The approximate duration of the procedure is about 45 minutes.
