Lapization of Urethral Caruncles
What is a urethral caruncle?
A urethral caruncle is a benign growth on the outer part of the urethra that can cause symptoms such as pain, bleeding or burning.
What is lapization of urethral caruncles?
When conservative therapy does not bring results, lapization of urethral caruncles is recommended, i.e. local “removal” of the growth surface with a chemical agent (most often silver nitrate). This procedure allows the bleeding to be controlled and the size of the caruncle to be reduced, and in most cases leads to the complete disappearance of the change.
How is lapization of urethral caruncles performed?
The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, without surgery or suturing.
The procedure only takes a few minutes, and during the procedure you may feel a slight burning sensation or temporary pain.
What does recovery look like?
There is usually no need for hospitalization after the procedure. Recovery is quick, and you may experience short-term discomfort, burning, or mild bleeding that stops spontaneously.
After the procedure, it is possible for the caruncle to return. In that case, it is necessary to repeat the procedure (sometimes several times) in order to achieve the full effect.
