Painless Colonoscopy
Colonoscopy
A colonoscopy is a diagnostic procedure recommended for patients with chronic digestive issues such as bloating, diarrhea, constipation, blood in the stool, or unexplained weight loss. This method enables the early detection of inflammatory changes, polyps, and colon tumors.
How is colonoscopy performed?
The procedure is performed using a colonoscope – a long, flexible instrument with a camera at the tip that displays the inside of the colon on a screen. During the examination, the patient lies on their left side while the colonoscope is carefully inserted through the anus, rectum, and colon.
At St. Catherine Specialty Hospital, colonoscopy is performed using state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, including an endoscope with CAD EYE artificial intelligence. This innovative system enhances real-time polyp detection, allowing doctors to identify even the smallest mucosal changes, including flat lesions, multiple polyps, and hard-to-see lesions hidden in image corners.
The entire procedure takes between 15 and 30 minutes, and if performed under anesthesia, the patient experiences no discomfort.
Colonoscopy under anesthesia
To ensure maximum comfort, the procedure can be performed under short intravenous anesthesia. This means the patient is asleep during the examination and feels no pain. After the procedure, a short recovery period is required before going home.
