Tamara Vasilj, M.D.

Specialist in Hematology

Tamara Vasilj, M.D., Specialist in Hematology, is a physician experienced in diagnosing and treating malignant and non-malignant hematologic diseases, with particular interest in acute leukemias, myeloid neoplasms and toxicities of modern oncologic therapies. 

She graduated from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in 2014, and began her career at Dubrava University Hospital where she has worked since 2016 completing all levels of professional training and is currently serving as a specialist in the Department of Hematology. Her international experience includes a one-year program at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute in the USA (focused on myeloid malignancies), as well as research work at the Gustave Roussy Cancer Institute in Paris. 

In her clinical practice, she is committed to comprehensive care for hematology patients, spanning diagnostic evaluation, treatment, follow-up and intensive care. She places additional emphasis on the toxicities of new hematologic-oncologic treatments and on assessing treatment outcomes. 

She has participated in numerous national and international initiatives, including the FDA/OPCORe project aimed at modernizing toxicity assessment for oncologic drugs in clinical trials. She has also worked as a clinical researcher in several international clinical studies. 

Her scientific work includes authorship and co-authorship of several papers published in peer-reviewed international journals and she regularly participates in professional meetings. 

She is a member of the Croatian Society of Hematology, the Croatian Cooperative Group for Hematologic Diseases (KROHEM), the European Hematology Association (EHA), the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), the International Academy for Clinical Hematology (IACH), CIBMTR Acute Leukemia Working Committee and the Association of Croatian American Professionals (ACAP). 

She is the recipient of the Ana Rukavina Foundation scholarship for advanced training in acute leukemias at the NIH, as well as an NIH recognition for her contribution to research in myelodysplastic syndromes.
