Jasminka Salopek-Rabatić, MD, M. Sc., MBA

Ophthalmology and Optometry Specialist

Primarius, Jasminka Salopek-Rabatić, MD, M. Sc., MBA graduated from the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine, on July 12, 1979. As a student, in 1978, she received the Rector’s Award of the University of Zagreb for her scientific work. She completed her internship at University Hospital Rebro and University Hospital Merkur in Zagreb, and in 1980 passed the professional state exam and enrolled in postgraduate studies in oncology at the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine.

From 1981 to 1983, she worked at the Rovinj Health Center and the Pula Medical Center, in emergency medicine and clinical practice. She completed her specialization in ophthalmology and optometry at the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine, on September 14, 1987, and continued her professional training at the Pula Medical Center. In 1988, she attended a postgraduate course in cataract surgery and visual rehabilitation at the Interuniversity Centre in Dubrovnik. In 1989, at the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine, she completed postgraduate studies in ophthalmology and in the same year obtained a Master of Medical Sciences degree by defending her thesis entitled The Possibilities of Neodymium-YAG Laser in the Treatment of Secondary Cataract and Opacities of the Posterior Capsule of the Lens.

Since 1993, she has been registered as a research associate in the field of medicine. She further advanced her expertise through numerous postgraduate programs, including Modern Surgical Treatment of Solar and Adnexal Injuries (Interuniversity Centre Dubrovnik, 1989) and postgraduate studies in plastic and aesthetic facial surgery (Zagreb, 1997). Throughout her career, she has completed numerous professional courses in ophthalmological subspecialization: eye ultrasound (Zagreb, 1992), Protection Laser Surgery Irradiation (Nürnberg, 1996), Excimer Laser in Corneal Surgery (Nürnberg, 1996), Retina and Vitreus – Update in Medical Retina and Vitreoretinal Surgery (Opatija), CLAO education in the USA, as well as training in anterior segment surgery, refractive surgery, and contact lens science (1997/1998).

In 1999, she participated in the clinical trial Open Comparative, Randomized Study on the Efficacy and Safety of Azithromycin and Doxycycline in the Treatment of Adult Inclusion Conjunctivitis, conducted by Pliva and approved by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia. Since 1998, she has been teaching at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences of the University of Zagreb in the field of ophthalmology and pediatric ophthalmology, and she also lectured at the University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica on pediatric ophthalmology and amblyopia for optometry students.

After completing her specialization, she worked at the Clinical Hospital Dubrava as a specialist ophthalmologist, where she was involved until 2021 in cataract surgery, the orthoptic-pleoptic pediatric ophthalmology unit, the laser unit (YAG laser for the anterior and Argon laser for the posterior eye segment), the glaucoma unit, and the contact lens unit. She is also the author and co-author of textbook chapters in Ophthalmology (2004), a publication of the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine, covering topics of laser eye surgery, ND YAG, and Argon laser.

At the international CLAO congress held in Florida in 2004, she won the first prize for science for her poster presentation on chlamydial conjunctivitis in contact lens wearers, focusing on epidemiology and treatment with azithromycin. In 2003, she completed the LMHS Leadership Management of Health Care postgraduate program at the London School of Economics, organized in cooperation with the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine, and the Andrija Štampar School of Public Health.

Since 2013, she has been an Eye Health Advisor and invited lecturer at international training programs and schools of The Vision Care Institute in Prague (Johnson & Johnson, contact lens education). She also authored and lectured at the Category I Continuing Medical Education Course Disorders of Refraction and Ocular Motility and Their Treatment at the University of Split, School of Medicine (2017), where she presented on paralytic strabismus. She was also awarded the professional title of Primarius at Clinical Hospital Dubrava.

She regularly participates in national and international congresses as an invited lecturer and moderator, with a focus on glaucoma, contact lenses, dry eye, and pediatric ophthalmology. 

She is a member of the Croatian Medical Association, the Croatian Medical Chamber, the Croatian Ophthalmological Society, the Croatian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the European Glaucoma Society, and CLAO/USA (regular international member since 1999). She is an active participant, lecturer, and moderator at national and international congresses and professional meetings, with numerous invited lectures in the field of ophthalmology. She is the author or co-author of more than 55 papers listed in the CROSBI database.
