Prim. Ivana Knežević Štromar, M.D., Ph.D., FEBGH
She was born in Varaždin in 1975 and completed her secondary education at Varaždin Gymnasium. In 1993, she enrolled at the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine, where she graduated in 1999. She completed an Internal Medicine internship at the Clinical Hospital Center Zagreb from 2001 to 2005 for the needs of Private Internal Medicine Practice "Dr. Jozo Knežević" in Novi Marof. After completing her specialization, she worked at the Sunce Polyclinic from 2005 to 2012, and then pursued a subspecialization fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at CHC Zagreb from 2009 to 2011. In February 2012, she began working at the Clinical Hospital Center Zagreb in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, in the Hepatology Unit, where she also participated in the Liver Transplantation Team.
She completed her postgraduate studies in "Biomedicine and Health" at the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb in 2013, defending her doctoral dissertation titled: "The Value of Cytological Analysis, DNA Quantification by Flow Cytometry, and Topoisomerase II-α Expression in Assessing the Degree of Dysplasia in Colorectal Mucosa."
From February 2019 to January 2023, she was a lecturer in undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine. In 2021, she earned the status of Scientific Associate in the scientific field of Biomedicine and Health, specifically in clinical sciences.
In June 2022, she earned the title of Primarius, and in June 2023, she became a Fellow of the European Board of Gastroenterology (FEBGH).
She is a member of the Croatian Society of Gastroenterology (HGD), the Croatian Medical Association (HLZ), and the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL).
Her main areas of interest include hepatology, emphasizing ultrasound diagnostics in hepatology. During her work at CHC Zagreb, she established an outpatient clinic for hepatology ultrasound and elastography (FibroScan). She is also skilled in celiac disease diagnosis and treatment.
She actively participates in domestic and international congresses and professional meetings, delivering numerous invited lectures in the field of hepatology and celiac disease, accompanied by conference presentations. She has published 14 papers in indexed scientific journals, and more than 30 abstracts for domestic and international congresses.
