Prof. Rajko Kušec, M.D., Ph.D.
After graduating from School of Medicine University of Zagreb and residency in internal medicine at Clinical Hospital Merkur, he was board certified as specialist in internal medicine in 1990. After postgraduate studies in hematology at the Medical University of Vienna, where he is visiting professor, he joined molecular hematology research group at Nuffield Division of Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NDCLS) at University of Oxford.
Professor Rajko Kušec, M.D., Ph.D. is professor of medicine at School of Medicine University of Zagreb.
Upon returning to Zagreb, Rajko Kušec, M.D. obtained the doctoral degree in natural sciences (PhD) in 1998 and, since the year 2000, he has worked at the Department of Hematology at Clinical Hospital Merkur where he became subspecialist hematologist in 2003. Since 2005. he is a consultant hematologist at the Department of Hematology at Clinical Hospital Dubrava in Zagreb, where he is head of Department since November 2021.
Professor Kušec is the president of Croatian Society of Hematology of Croatian Medical Association and member/board member of several distinguished national and international associations and hematology working groups (e.g. CROHEM, CEMPO, SWG MPN-EHA, EHOG).
He has published 178 scientific and professional papers cited over 2200 times.
Apart from general clinical hematology, prof. Kušec is particularly interested in disorders presenting with cytopenia (low leukocytes, platelets or anaemia) and myeloproliferative disorders characterised by leucocytosis, erythrocytosis or thrombocytosis.
