Posterior Urethral Valve
Posterior urethral valve is a congenital anomaly that occurs in boys. It is characterized by the presence of tissue folds in the posterior part of the urethra, which obstructs or blocks the normal flow of urine from the bladder. This results in increased pressure in the bladder, leading to difficulties with urination (e.g. weak urine stream, neurogenic bladder, urinary tract infections, urethral hydronephrosis, kidney damage). Treatment requires surgical intervention to remove the valve in order to preserve urinary system function.
