Nasal Reconstruction with Frontal Lobe and Cartilage Grafts

What is nasal reconstruction with frontal lobe and cartilage grafts?

Nasal reconstruction with frontal lobe and cartilage grafts is a surgical procedure that restores the nasal structure using parts of the forehead and cartilage tissue. This procedure is usually performed on patients who have suffered a nasal injury or who have a nasal deformity that interferes with normal breathing or causes aesthetic problems.

What does the procedure look like?

Before the surgery itself, the patient is prepared for the surgery, during which the patient must undergo a thorough examination to determine the condition of the nose and general health. Also, the patient will be anesthetized before the procedure to avoid pain during the procedure. Nasal reconstruction with frontal lobe and cartilage grafts is usually performed under general anesthesia and lasts between 1 and 3 hours, depending on the extent of the surgery and the complexity of the reconstruction.

The surgeon will first make an incision in the forehead above the nose to access the cartilaginous part of the nose. This is followed by removing the damaged or deformed portion of the cartilage from the nose and preparing it for reconstruction. In some cases, the surgeon will also remove a portion of the skin from the nose and use it for reconstruction.

The surgeon will then take a portion of the skin and subcutaneous tissue from the forehead to be used to shape the cartilage. This technique is called a "frontal flap" or "frontal lobe." The skin and subcutaneous tissue of the flap are then moved to the nose, where they are shaped into a new nasal structure. This is followed by the insertion of cartilage grafts into the nose, which the surgeon shapes to achieve the desired appearance, i.e. to improve the firmness and shape of the nose.

After the nose is shaped to the desired shape, the surgeon will carefully close the incisions on the forehead and nose, and apply bandages to protect against swelling and bleeding. In some cases, it may be necessary to place temporary tubes in the nose to prevent blood from accumulating.

What happens after the procedure?

After surgery, the patient will need to remain under medical supervision to ensure that the nose heals properly. Patient also need to avoid activities that could lead to injury to the nose or interfere with the healing process, such as strenuous exercise or activities that require the head to be tilted forward. The patient will also need to follow the doctor's instructions on how to care for and clean the nose after surgery, and when they can return back to normal activities and work. It is important to contact your doctor if you notice any signs of infection, bleeding, or other complications after surgery.

The procedure itself involves at least two surgeries, but more procedures might be needed to improve the aesthetic and functional final success of the nasal reconstruction. The number of surgeries depends on the patient's satisfaction with the results and the surgeon's ability to achieve this satisfaction.
