De Quervain's thyroiditis (inflammation of the thyroid gland), also known as subacute granulomatous thyroiditis, is a member of the group of thyroiditis conditions known as resolving thyroiditis. People of all ages and genders may be affected. Along with local symptoms, the patient experiences general symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, elevated sedimentation rate, hyperthyroidism. Various virus types can cause this inflammation. Anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen) and beta blockers are used. Corticosteroids are a treatment option too.
