Ultrasound of the breast
Breast ultrasound is used to analyze palpable masses in the breast, diagnose benign changes (inflammation, cysts, benign tumors) and malignant changes in the breast (breast cancer). It is also used for additional evaluation after mammography in cases of dense glandular tissue, breast pain, nipple discharge and to assess the condition of implants.
How to prepare for a breast ultrasound?
No special preparation is needed for a breast ultrasound; the exam is painless and takes about twenty minutes. We recommend bringing previous medical documentation to the appointment.
Best time for a breast ultrasound
The best time to have the exam is 5-12 days after the first day of menstruation.
