ECG-gated CT Angiography of the Entire Aorta
In St. Catherine Specialty Hospital, we are doing CT angiography of the entire aorta with contrast under ECG guidance. This is a diagnostic procedure that allows doctors to examine the aorta in detail using a contrast agent. A contrast agent is injected into a vein to better visualize structures within the body, allowing physicians to see the aorta more clearly on a CT scan.
Unlike classic CT aortography, ECG-gated CT angiography of the entire aorta or CT aortography according to the TAVI protocol is a very important and useful examination when planning a percutaneous aortic valve replacement (TAVI) procedure.
CT angiography of the entire aorta may be recommended in various situations, including:
- Suspicion of aortic aneurysm: if there is suspicion of aortic dilation (aneurysm), CT angiography can provide a detailed depiction of the size and shape of the aneurysm.
- Assessment of atherosclerosis: CT imaging can assist in evaluating the presence and severity of atherosclerosis, plaque buildup on the walls of the aorta.
- Disease monitoring: patients with known aortic diseases may undergo regular CT scans to monitor disease progression and treatment effectiveness.
