Strategic investment of U.S. in Croatia: The largest American health care institution UPMC launches the construction of the most modern Center for the Treatment of Malignant Diseases
American - Croatian partnership that positions Croatian healthcare globally
On November 7th 2022 in Zagreb, an agreement was signed between the largest American health institution "University of Pittsburgh Medical Center" (UPMC) and prof. Dragan Primorac, M.D., Ph.D., founder and chairman of the partner institution St. Catherine Specialty Hospital on the construction of the most modern Center for the Treatment of Malignant Diseases based on the comprehensive concept of personalized medicine. The value of this investment in the first phase is almost HRK120.000,000, which is fully provided by UPMC. At the same time, the Cooperation Agreement between "University of Pittsburgh Medical Center" (UPMC) and Zabok General Hospital and Croatian Veterans Hospital was signed.
This cooperation currently represents the largest U.S. investment in this part of Europe and it will provide Croatian patients with diagnostic and therapeutic services completely equivalent to those in the U.S. This investment is a huge step forward in the transfer of the latest knowledge from the U.S. and huge improvement of the Croatian healthcare, especially in the fight against cancer. The project is fully implemented in cooperation with the Zabok General Hospital and the Croatian Veterans Hospital in the area where until recently was St. Catherine Specialty Hospital was placed. The Plan is to build a new Center for the Treatment of Malignant Diseases in about a year.
The signing ceremony was attended on behalf of UPMC by the president and CEO one of the most influential people of the American healthcare system, Ms. Leslie Davis, Executive Vice President of UPMC International Chuck Bogosta and Chief Medical Officer of UPMC International Joel Nelson, M.D., Ph.D. and on behalf of the St. Catherine Specialty Hospital was attended by prof. Dragan Primorac, M.D., Ph.D., president of the Board of Directors of St. Catherine Specialty Hospital, Mrs. Jadranka Primorac, member of the Board of Directors of St. Catherine Specialty Hospital and prof. Igor Borić, M.D., Ph.D., director of the St. Catherine Specialty Hospital.
