  • Prayer Partners
    • At SCL, our 6th through 8th graders have the opportunity to serve as spiritual role models to students in grades kindergarten through second. Eighth graders are teamed up with students in first grade, seventh grade with kindergarten, and sixth with second grade. In this successful program, our older students team up with their partners and model appropriate behavior during religious activities and beyond. The quality and vision of this program has extended into the social aspect of school activities as well. For instance, our prayer partners warmly welcome new students, join kindergarten and first grade for their Easter egg hunts, participate in Halloween parties and parades and our yearly walk for the Homeless.

The time that our prayer partners spend as mentors is endearing and lasting. If your child would like to submit a short summary of what it has meant to them to be a prayer partner, please feel free to send their comments by email to natalieanneray@gmail.com. Including their grade and first name is optional. Please send in your comments too if your younger child would like to comment on how special it is to them to have a prayer partner.

Students were asked why they liked having a prayer partner, and this is what they said!

        Laura, 1st Grade
“It’s very fun because you get to sit with someone you like in church.”

        Andrew, 1st Grade
“I like my prayer partner because he helps me.”

        Shaughn, 8th Grade
“Being a prayer partner is like being a big brother. We can help younger students both at school and at church. It helps us to connect with younger students.”

        Caitlin, 1st Grade
“My prayer partner helps me find numbers during Bingo. It makes me feel good to have one.”

        Sheila, 3rd Grade
“Prayer partners are nice. You can hang out with them, and you don’t have to be lonely at Mass. It’s super fun having one at Bingo.”

        Jacob, 1st Grade
“My prayer partner helps me at fun things like Bingo. I like to sit next to him during church so I can see what he’s doing.”

Family Mass

The family Mass at SCL is a wonderful and special opportunity to celebrate the gift of Mass with your children. On the third Sunday of every month at the 9 a.m. Mass, children are invited to the alter for an interactive and educational homily created especially for them. Following Mass is a coffee and donut reception held in the gym. Please come and join us! The Family Mass schedule is as follows for 2007-2008: Oct. 21st, Nov. 18th, Dec. 16th, December 24th (Christmas Eve Pantomime at 5 p.m.!), Jan. 20th, Feb. 17th, March 16th, March 23rd (with an egg hunt to follow Mass!), April 20th, May 18th.
